I ran across this in the: 2.3 Platform Independent Customer may run either the version licensed or a different platform version, provided that the different platform version was available when the original licensed version became available. If the components of a Product suite vary by platform version, then Customer may use the components of the suite that it chooses to deploy and only those components; Customer may not mix components across platform versions. SA for a platform independent License permits Customer to use, in place of the licensed Product the most current version of either platform version of the Product that becomes available during the term of coverage. Microsoft provides Office 2016 for Mac in two flavors: one for Office365 subscribers which users can “activate” by signing into their O365 accounts, and one for organizations entitled to a volume license through some agreement. The volume license is activated during the install process, very similar to Office 2011. Back to Microsoft Office for Mac 2016 Office 2016 Licensing (VL vs o365). I'm not sure what happens from a licensing point of view if you push out a Volume license copy (and don't delete the volume license key) and an end user signs in using their Office 365 credentials (if they even can). Best modem for 2010 mac os x. Very good to know! This might make it a little clearer: Basically since Office is licensed per device and not per user like O365 versions are, if the device in question has a license, you can use the latest version of Office available for either platform. If you have SA on the license, it doesn't matter if you purchased it before the Windows version. As long as your licensing count is in order I think you're fine. Yet another example of where O365 might be the better choice since each licensed user can install it on 5 PC's or Macs and an additional 5 tablets whereas with Volume Licensing you have to license each device. Very good to know! Yes that is why in an Enterprise Agreement there is no office for MAC, just Office Pro Plus, since all products in an EA come with SA. Platform Independent clause has been there for long, earlier this was mentioned in Microsoft Products List. Now Product List and Product Use Rights have been merged to make Microsoft Product Terms. And just below that on page 23 it is mentioned: 2.3 Platform Independent Customer may run either the version licensed or a different platform version, provided that the different platform version was available when the original licensed version became available. My university has Office 365 and we have been running office 2016 on mac without issue until recently. I recently tried updating from version 15.19.1 to version 15.21.1, and noticed that my 'License' in the About window was showing 'Retail' rather than Volume. This has been true with update 15.22 as well. I am on a stable wired network. So far I have tried: • Updating a previous install that shows 'Volume License' to 15.21.1 • Updating a previous install that shows 'Volume License' to 15.22 • Installing fresh Office 2016 from the 15.17 VL pkg installer, update to 15.21.1 • Installing fresh Office 2016 from the 15.17 VL pkg installer, update to 15.22 • Installing 15.21.1 VL pkg installer • Install the sku-less 15.22 pkg installer, run serializer The result has been the same however, after the version number is 15.21.1 or above, my license shows 'Retail License' and I have to sign in to a prompt window to open Outlook.
